Quick Fixes for Common Accessibility Errors

Accessibility isn’t a “nice to have” anymore—it’s table stakes. Roughly 1 in 6–7 people worldwide lives with a disability, and many more deal with temporary or age-related limitations. If your store isn’t usable for them, you’re leaving money on the table and risking brand trust. The upside: the same fixes that help accessibility also lift conversion, SEO, and mobile UX.
Why it matters (beyond compliance)
- Missing Alt Text – images with no description
Without alt text, screen reader users can’t tell what an image is—or where a linked image goes. Fix: add short, meaningful descriptions for all important images. If it’s decorative, mark it as empty (alt=' ') so it’s skipped.
- Low Color Contrast – hard-to-read text
Light gray on white might look stylish, but it’s unreadable for many users. Fix: aim for strong contrast (dark text on light background or vice versa). Use a free contrast checker and tweak colors slightly until they pass
- Broken Heading Structure – confusing content flow
Headings aren’t just visual—they’re how screen readers outline your page. Fix: use one H1 per page, then H2 for sections, H3 for subsections, and so on in order. Don’t skip levels just for design.
- Missing Form Labels – mystery fields
“Edit text, blank.” That’s what a screen reader says when a field has no label. Fix: give every input a visible or hidden label that explains what to enter. Don’t rely on placeholder text alone.
- Unclear Links and Buttons – no idea what they do
“Click here” or an empty icon button doesn’t tell anyone what happens next. Fix: use descriptive text (“Download Report,” “Search”) and make sure every button or link is keyboard-accessible.
Why Fixing Accessibility Helps Your Business
Accessibility errors are like hidden cracks in your sales funnel. Some users leave because they can’t read the text, some because they can’t fill out a form, others because they can’t even use a button. Each one is a lost opportunity.
Fixing them isn’t about being perfect—it’s about closing those cracks so more visitors stick around, trust your site, and convert. Accessible sites are smoother, more inclusive, and more professional. That builds customer loyalty and protects your brand reputation.
